Arjen Duinker fuses an inherent search for authenticity to a poetic form never seen before in Dutch poetry…

Arjen Duinker was born in Delft (The Netherlands) in 1956. He has had a novel and nine volumes of poetry published
in The Netherlands, and one of his poems has been translated into 220 different languages. He was awarded
the Netherlands 2005 VSB Poetry Prize for his collection The Sun and the World where, according to the judges,
he fuses an inherent search for authenticity to a poetic form never seen before in Dutch poetry, "a languagemusic
where there are subtle and playful shifts in sound and meaning: an infectious enthusiasm leaps from these poems
and joy in the naming of everyday thing."

Melbourne bi-lingual poet jeltje was swept up in the general accolade for The Sun and she was delighted to be able to translate and present the complete version of this remarkable work for release in Australia.
The Sun and the world comes in two parts. On the original, The Sun was read by the poet himself and his
friend and author Kees 't Hart to a live audience for national broadcast on VPRO Dutch Radio. For this translation the text is read by the Melbourne poets jeltje and Lauren Williams
It is suggested that the reader listens to the CD first.
